Recently, the world marked the anniversary of the terrible tragedy that was the first world war. Avi wrote this poem based on a picture from that war. I think his poem really does capture a poignant moment from the conflict.
Round helmets
Grubby uniforms
Muddy faces
Boots stuck in the mud
Can we make it in time to save our wounded solder?
